History of the Feed the Hungry Program

In recognition of a growing number of people facing hardship in Calgary, Catholic Charities piloted a dinner project to provide nutritious meals to Calgarians in need. The first dinner was held on Easter Sunday, 1993, followed by four more dinners that year.

The response from Calgarians concerned about the homeless and those living in poverty resulted in more frequent dinners. By July 1994, Feed the Hungry was an established program of Catholic Charities and recognized in the community as a vital service for those in need.

The MISSION of the Feed the Hungry Program is to provide nutritious food to the needy.
