Diocesan History
The
Winds of Change: A History of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary
since 1968
Back in the early sixties, a history of our Catholic Diocese of Calgary was written, entitled From the Buffalo to the Cross. It recorded the lives of the early missionaries of the church, and its development over those years. It was an excellent history and now, of course, is out of print.
For the past six years, a continuation of the history of the diocese was written, recording the Episcopal years of Bishop Paul O'Byrne. It is entitled, "Winds of Change". The author, Norman Knowles, is a historian from St. Mary's University College.
It is exciting to read about the fantastic development of the church in our diocese during that time. This book records the history of all parishes in our southern Alberta diocese. In it, you will read the biographies of each of the priests you have known, and know today. You will read about the tremendous work of the religious Sisters, Brothers, priests and about the accomplishments of the lay organizations that continue to make significant contributions to our faith and secular communities.
This book will make a wonderful gift for a Catholic family or person interested in local history, religious impact on community development and growth, Catholic education, ecumenism, social justice, or biographies.
